Inauguration of Online Classes for Std. III to V :
The official inauguration of virtual classes for Std. III to V for the academic year 2021-22 was held on Monday 14th June 2021 @ 4 pm.
Parents were invited for the programme organized through a zoom meeting. The programme commenced with a prayer song, Ms. Kulandai Teresa, AHM welcomed the virtual gathering. The members of the management were introduced by Rev. Fr. Xavier Packia, Rector & Correspondent, and the new members were welcomed, he blessed and officially inaugurated the online classes for Std. III to V.
Rev. Gerald Miranda, Principal in his speech welcomed the new students. He paid homage to the loved ones whom we lost to this COVID pandemic. He thanked the parents for their support and encouragement through the past years and exhorted them to extend cooperation and advocacy throughout this academic year. Parents voiced their suggestions and appreciations. The programme ended with instructions by AHM followed by the School Anthem.

Don Bosco Feast
The feast of St. John Bosco our father and founder was celebrated with religious fervor on 30th January 2021.
Christmas was celebrated on 21st December 2020. Winners of Annual competitions were awarded on that day. The Christmas message was given by Fr. Rector and the programme was screened online.
The Biblical values were celebrated online on 7th and 8th December 2020. Fancy Dress, Collage, Recitation, Elocution on Moral Values, Character Portrayal and Drawing competitions were held for students of Std. I to V. Gifts and Certificates were awarded to winners.
The childrens’ Day was celebrated on 13th November 2020. Mast. Mohammed Zaid- Std. III, Mast. Mohammed Zain – Std.IV and Mast. David Immanuel – Std V were the Chief Guests of the day. Our Primary Students were overjoyed with the melodious singing and graceful dancing of their mentors. A skit on how to live safe was enacted by the teachers. The children enjoyed the programme online.
An inter school carol singing competition for the senior kindergarten students was held on 19th December 2020. 32 children participated in this online competition. Baby. Leena Evelyn from Bosco Academy won the First Prize, Baby. Johanna Christabel from Sacred Heart and Baby. Sephora Joy of Fatima Convent won the Second Prize and Baby. Lakshana from Euro Kids International won the third prize. Hearty congratulations to the winners.
It is an annual feature where the platform is set to exhibit the innate talents of our children by engaging them in their field of expertise. This year the participation was confounding through online. The competitions were held in reading, recitation, essay writing, drawing, singing, handwriting and elocution competitions held in English and Tamil. Competitions were judged by Mrs. Sathya Priya- Eurokids, Mrs. Ligy Rosy D’Cruz-HOD English Primary Dept. Boaco academy, Mr. Trevor Star-Musician, Mr. Daminan Martin-Musician. Certificates were awarded to the winners
PPT Competitions conducted exclusively for Std. V students was held on 31.10.2020. Students presented their PPT online and it was judged by Mr. Karthik Loganathan, Mainframe performance and Capacity analyst from HCL Technologies, and Master. Jeeno Miranda. Certificates were awarded to the winners.
Don Bosco Quiz
A quiz on the life of our Father and Founder St. John Bosco was held on 29th January 2021 for the kindergarten students. The quiz was conducted online and the participation of our tiny tots was exuberant the winners were awarded with certificates.
Our nation’s 74th Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August 2020. The chief guests were the warriors of the season involved in an uphill battle against COVID- 19. Dr. Robin J Bensam, Managing Director of Robin Hospital, Mrs. Priya, Staff Nurse at Egmore Children’s Hospital, Mr. Konaya, Sanitation worker, Mr. Samuel, a patient recovered form COVID-19. They were honoured for their inexorable services to the society in this pandemic situation. Very limited number of staff and students attended the programme in person for the flag hoisting and the celebration was relayed online.
The investiture ceremony for the selected school leaders was held on 25th July 2020. The leaders were invested with their titles and took their oath during the virtual ceremony. It was an overwhelming experience for the Primary children to participate in the ceremony virtually, the evening reverberated with profound enthusiasm. Mater Elves X was elected as the School Pupil Leader and Mast. Derrick Rose as Asst. School Pupil Leader.
An annual inter school carol singing competition exclusively for the kindergarten students was held on 5th December 2019. The chief guest for the event was Mr. Arul Dev, Music Director. Students from 13 city schools participated in the competition. Cherubic kindergartners with their angelic caroling and sparkling costumes gave an astounding performance. CSI Ewarts School won the first place and DB Egmore gave a host performance.
Plastic Waste Free Campaign
An awareness initiative to discourage using ‘Single Use Plastic’. An assembly was conducted on 22nd October 2019 about Recycling and Waste management.
A campaign which insisted in the goodness of nutritious food. Children were asked to eat more vegetables and fruits every day. They were educated on how, good nutrition helps us to live a good life.
Jal Shakthi Abhiyan
The importance of water conservation was elucidated to the students in a special assembly. The ways and means to save water and not to waste this precious source of life was illustrated to the students of Std. I to V.Childrens Day Celebration – Primary
The celebration of Childrens’ Day for the primary was held on 14th November 2019. It was a day to adore and cherish the innocence of the children, to make happier the happy faces of Std. I to V. The programme started with a Prayer song, followed by dance and a moral fashion parade. Every programme was planned and executed by the teachers meticulously to make the day enjoyable for their students. Competitions were organised for the students and winners were awarded with trophies.KG Childrens Day Celebration
There is no picture as beautiful as happy innocent children. Celebration of this innocence was held on 16th November 2019. KG children were welcomed by adorable cartoon characters. Kids were overjoyed to see their Teachers styled as personalities from popular rhymes. Children were treated with nutritious snacks. They enjoyed the games like Dragon Bouncy, Train Car, Spider man Bouncy, Mini Golf, Archer, Darts Board and Mini Basket Ball oraganised exclusively for them. An Annual event to celebrate books was held on 1st November 2019. Children portrayed the characters they liked best from the books they had read. They announced ‘Who they are?’ to the audience. Exemplary depiction of the comic and novel characters was witnessed by all. The programme was presided over by Rev. Fr. Gerald Miranda the Principal. This awareness programme ‘Samagra Shiksha’ was initiated by the Indian Government to inculcate physical activity in daily lives of children. The Fit India Plogging run was organised for the students of Std. IV and V on 11th October 2019. The rally started form the school premises at 7.30 am. Accompanied by Rev. Fr. Gerald Miranda the Principal, the students and the teachers walked a distance of 2.5 km carrying placards with the messages ‘Clean India’, ‘Fit India’.150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
The Father of our Nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi born 150 years ago continues to inspire millions across the globe even in this era. His principle of Non –Violence has influenced leaders of many nations. The Birth Anniversary of this great leader was commemorated in our school in a grand manner.
On 10th of October 2019 an All Faith Assembly was conducted to imbibe in the children the value of brother hood.
On 16th October 2019 a movie on the life of Mahatma Gandhi was shown to the students of Std. III to V.
A visit to the Gandhi Museum was organised for Std. IV to observe the life style of Mahatma Gandhi.
An Assembly on life of Gandhi and his principles was conducted on 14th October 2019.
Painting and Drawing Competitions on Gandhi was conducted for students of Std. I to V.
Speech on the Life of Gandhi was conducted for students of Std. V on 15th October 2019.
Poem, Essay and Slogan competitions on Mahatma Gandhi were conducted for the students of Std. IV and V on 14th October 2019.
The winners of all the competitions were awarded with certificates. The competitions and programmes on Gandhi educated the children more on the values of our beloved Mahatma.Teacher’s Day
It is a festival of the educating community. For our students, Teacher’s Day is an occasion and opportunity to pay tribute to our teachers for their selfless and precious efforts in the education process. Students presented variety entertainment and gifts as an expression of their love and gratitude. The PTA bestowed the teachers with gifts and a sumptuous lunch. The day ended with a note of thanks by the management.
Homage to Sujith Wilson
The KG students paid to Homage to Sujith Wilson who died after being stuck in an abandoned borewell near his home in Nadukattupatti, Manapparai, Trichy. A prayer service was conducted and instructions were given to the students on how to play safely.
Annual Athletic Meet 2019-20
The Annual Athletic Meet of Don Bosco Primary and Kindergarten Section was held on 9th August 2019. The Sports events were based on the theme ‘Save Water’. Ms. Parimala Devi – Carrom Board International Champion was the Chief Guest and Ms. Sanjana – Archery World Record Holder was the Guest of Honour and the pride of our school Mast. Thavish International Roller Skating Champion was hounored by the school. The day was filled with smart March Past by the Toddler’s Army, Colourful drills, Aerobics, exciting races, prize distribution and a solemn closing ceremony. Showstopper of the day was Ms. Sanjana’s Archery demonstration. We wish her all success. Long Live Don Bosco.
Former Chief Minister Late K. Kamarajar’s Birthday celebrated as Literacy Day was held on 15th July 2019. Mrs. Suganthi Fernando former AHM was the chief guest. A skit was presented by the students on how Kamarajar championed to provide education to the children of Tamil Nadu.
Kindergarten House Inauguration & Investiture Ceremony:
Don Bosco fosters its students in the competitive yet communal ethos of the House System. The House System for the Kindergarten was inaugurated on 12th July 2019. Rev. Fr. Lionel Xavier our former Spiritual Director was the Chief Guest. The leaders of the Kindergarten were invested with their titles. Rev. Fr. Gerald Miranda our Principal presided over the function.
A puppet Show on Civic Sense and Social Responsibility was organised for students of Std. IV and V. The students were engrossed in the way the values of life were presented by the puppeteer. Students were beseeched to follow the rules and values in their day to day life.
Independence Day, Vocation Day & Feast of Assumption:
The triple celebration of Independence Day, Vocation Day and Feast of Assumption was held on 15th August 2019. The 73rd Independence Day Celebrations commenced with invocation of God’s blessings. The National Flag was hoisted by Rev. Fr. Gregory Devarajan our Rector and Correspondent. Rev. Fr. Gerald Miranda our Principal delivered the day’s message. Role play of students as Gandhiji, Nethaji, Veerapandiya Kattaboman, Kodikatha Kumaran, and Nehruji made our children reminisce on the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. Patriotic songs and speech were given by the students. An awesome flag dance performance was presented by the students of Std. I. Tree saplings were planted, the celebration ended with an Exhibition and Essay competition on patriotism.
A high mass was concelebrated by the newly ordained priests and the management, catholic students and parents participated with religious fervor. Father Rector exhorted the parents to guide their children towards religious vocation and accord spiritual and financial support to the aspiring religious.
A PPT competition exclusively for the students of Std. V on various topics was held on 4th July 2019. A total number of 40 teams participated in the competition and 12 teams qualified for the finals. Mr. Ashok Kumar, Director BBS networks and Mr. Ram Arunachalam, IT head, Intellect Galaxy judged the competition. Winners were awarded with certificates and Trophies.
The first assembly for the academic year 2019-20 was held on 4th June 2019. Rev. Fr. Gregory Devarajan, Rector and Correspondent welcomed the students and introduced Rev. Fr. Gerald Miranda, Principal as the Primary Section Incharge. Rev. Fr. John Britto, Vice Rector & Administrator, Rev. Fr. Ambrose, Spiritual Director were also welcomed and introduced to the gathering. Seminar for Parents 2019-20 The Annual Seminar for parents was held on 19th and 20th June 2019. The resource person was Dr. Lazar Selva, former Professor –Loyola College and ELT trainer. The Seminar was on types of Parenting and what would be the effective way of parenting for the children of this era. The seminar was engaging and it was made more alive with enthusiastic participation of parents. Yoga Day 2019-20 Yoga is defined to improve a child’s Mind and Body connection. It reinforces the pedagogy of our school ‘Development of Mind, Body and Spirit’. World Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2019. Yoga Asanas where performed by all students of Std. III to V in the school grounds. Students were exhorted to continue the practice of Yoga every day for physical and mental health. Investiture Ceremony 2019-20 The Investiture Ceremony officially marked the inception of the House system in the Primary Section for the academic year 2019-20. On 25th June 2019 the young and smart leaders were invested with their titles and they solemnly took their oath to discharge their duties to the best of their abilities. The chief guest of the day was Mrs. Teresa Missier our former AHM. Rev. Fr. Gerald Miranda our Principal welcomed the gathering, Rev. Fr. Gregory Devarajan, Rector & Correspondent, Rev. Fr. Philip Louie, Principal – Don Bosco School of Excellence, Mrs. Annie Premkumar our AHM, the House Mistresses and PET Masters presented the leaders with their respective badges. The day concluded with an energetic and engaging Inter House Foot ball Match won by the Rua House.First Assembly 2019 -20
Disaster Management – Safety and Awareness Programme by Tamil Nadu Fire Services
On 11th June 2019 the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services conducted a mock drill at Don Bosco Mat. Hr. Sec. School, Egmore. They explained in a detailed manner the fire safety measures and elucidated the services rendered by the Fire and Rescue team. The Disaster management team coordinated with the Fire Services in hosting this event. It lasted for about an hour and half. Mr. K. Kumar, District Officer of Chennai City Central, Fire and rescue Services presided over the programme and animated the students on fire related issues. Re. Fr. Gregory Devarajan, Rector & Correspondent, Rev. Fr. Gerald Miranda, Principal and Fr. John Britto, Vice Rector and Administrator graced the programme and participated with the students in the stunts and services displayed by the Fire Service Department.
Grandparents’ Day :
A good listener, an enthusiastic playmate and a good companion – all bundled up in one at home is the grandparent. Their role in the lives of their grand children is very vital. 9th February 2019 was a day dedicated in honouring the K G grandparents. Mrs. Richmann our former Music teacher was the chief guest. KG Students presented a cultural programme which was immensely enjoyed and appreciated by the grandparents. Interesting competitions were held for them and the winners were awarded with prizes.
DOBODA Season 7
This is the seventh season of Dancing for a noble cause. The students of the DB Dance Club in collaboration with the renowned John Britto’s Dance Company organized Don Bosco Dancing (DOBODA) in aid of tribal children of Jawadhi Hills . The dance extravaganza was held on 25th and 26th January 2019 and on the same days DB Carnival was organised from 9 am to 9 pm.
Fr. Gatti Memorial Inter School Football Tournament (under 10 Category) 2018-2019 :
Ten city schools participated in the tournament held at Don Bosco grounds on 6th and 7thFebruary 2019.
Asan Memorial School won the tournament by beating Don Bosco Matric. Hr. Sec. School 2-1.

Science Exhibition 2018-19 :
Science Exhibition was organised to motivate and offer a platform for all the inquisitive minds of the Primary Section.Their innovative ideas of how science can be applied to meet the needs of the society, to better the living conditions of individuals and to save the environment from further deterioration was exemplarily modeled and exhibited. The Exhibits were judged on the Creativity, technical skills and presentation. Certificated were awarded for the best projects.
Fr. Gatti Memorial Inter School Cricket Tournament (under 10 Category) 2018-2019 :
Sixteen city schools participated in the tournament held at Don Bosco grounds. Don Bosco Primary won the tournament by beating Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School. The Final Scores were -Don Bosco Mat. Hr. Sec. School, Egmore 99 for 5 in 20 overs Srivatsan 35, Koushik 2 for 12.

The Egmore Book Fest by Don Bosco
The Book Fest was held on 13th October 2018. It is an annual event initiated to imbibe reading habit in children. Famous and familiar characters from classic novels and modern books came alive on stage in the ‘Character Portrayal Competition’. Students from Std. I to V participated. Certificates were awarded to winners.
Nutrition & Health Awareness
The DB Health Station conducted an awareness programme for students and parents on the value of nutrition and health. The ways and means to maintain good health and the quality and quantity of nutritious food to be consumed by the students were clearly explained by experts.
Teachers Day Celebration
On 4th September 2018 Teachers were made to feel Special as the students of the Primary Section celebrated Teachers Day. Cultural programme was organised and every staff member was felicitated by the students. Following a long standing tradition the PTA honoured and treated the teachers on 5th September 2018.

Mr. Donny Michael, DIG – Chief Staff Officer (Operations), Indian Coast Guard Region (East) was the Chief Guest and Grand Master. Prag Gnanandhaa R was the Guest of Honour. Student participation was absolute as every student from Std. I to V participated in the events designated to them. The day was filled with smart March Past, colourful drills, exciting races, prize distribution and a solemn closing ceremony.
Felicitation of our Former Principal
A Special Assembly was conducted on 3rd September 2018 to greet, thank and felicitate our former Principal Rev. Fr. Arul Raja SDB. Fr. Gregory welcomed and thanked him for all that he had been to us for the past three years. Sentiments of gratitude were expressed by Mrs. Mona Chandraprasad and the students presented an action song. Fr. Arul Raja responded to the felicitation, he said that his tenure of three years in Don Bosco was an enriching experience.

Independence Day and Feast of Assumption were celebrated on 15th August 2018 with the spirit befitting the occasions. The National Flag was hoisted by Rev. Fr. Gregory Devarajan our Rector and Correspondent. Patriotic Songs and speech were given by the students.
A high mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Gregory Devarajan – Rector, Rev. Fr. Lionel Xavier – Spiritual Director, Rev. Fr. Philip Louie – Principal of DBX, Rev. Fr. Anto Sagayaraj SDB and Rev. Fr. Anto Jagadeesh SDB. Catholic staff, students and parents participated with religious fervor. Fr. Jagadeesh in his homily made it plain that with Freedom comes responsibility and students should learn to handle freedom in a responsible way.
Educational trips take learning beyond the confines of a classroom. Students of Std. V were taken to visit Coast Guard Ship ‘Sarang’ on 26th and 27th of July 2018. It was an informative learning experience as they were given a complete tour of the ship and how it is operated to serve the country. Students accompanied by Fr. Rector and staff spend half the day in the ship, immensely enjoyed the hospitality rendered by the coast guards and returned with souvenirs.
Former CM Late. K Kamarajar’s Birthday Celebrations:
The Birthday of our former CM Late. K. Kamarajar’s Birthday was celebrated in a Special Assembly. The programme was organized by the Tamil Department. A skit depicting his achievements was enacted by students.
Inauguration of the House System and Investiture Ceremony of Kindergarten Section:
The House system for the youngest batch in school was inaugurated on 11th July 2018. Titles of School Pupil leader, Assistant School Pupil Leader and House Captains for the Kindergarten Section were conferred and the leaders dutifully took oath to faithfully discharge their duties in the spirit of true leadership for the honour of the school.
Competition in PowerPoint Presentation exclusively for the students of Std. V was held on 7th July 2018. The competition aims to amplify the students’ interest and quest for technical skills. The participating teams were asked to choose a topic and create the presentation efficiently. 3 teams from each section were chosen for the finals. The topics for presentation varied from History of Chennai, Junk Food, Dental Care, Gaming, Electromagnetic Rays, Galaxies, Artificial Rain, Go Green, etc. The Judges Mr. Victor and Ms. Judith from Tata Consultancy congratulated the students on their exemplary presentation, coordination and skillful use of techniques. Winners were announced and the programme ended with the School Anthem.

Inauguration of the House System and the Investiture Ceremony of the school leaders was held on 22nd June 2018. Rev. Fr. Joy Panackel, Rector, Director and Correspondent of Don Bosco Beatitudes was the Chief guest. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the kuthuvilakku followed by the Prayer Song. The School Leaders took the oath to give their best to the school and to their own better formation. The leaders were conferred with their badges of honour to work and motivate their peers during the academic year. The chief guest, in his address advised the students not to miss opportunities to improve physical, intellectual and spiritual qualities. Mast. Nitin Viktor J, ASPL spoke on the significance of the House System and the SPL Mast. Alvin Mahiban Benedict proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the school anthem.
Annual Seminar for Parents
Annual Seminar for parents of JKG to Std. V was conducted on 18th and 19th June. Mrs. Tresa Xavier, M.A. M. Phil (English Literature), Professional Life Skill and Communication Trainer, currently working as Assistant Professor of English and Soft skills in Loyola College of Arts and Science was the resource person. The Seminar was titled ‘Parenting – A Challenge Today’.
The evening started with a prayer song at 5.30 pm, Fr. Rector welcomed the gathering and introduced the new management. The AHM introduced the staff and gave some common instructions to the parents. This was followed by the Seminar. Mrs. Tresa Xavier beseeched the parents to be Authoritative parents, reciprocal in relationship, responsive and high in bidirectional relationship. Fr. Rector exhorted the parents to grow with the children for effective parenting. The day ended with the elections for Parents Teachers Association.
First Day of School – JKG
School started for JKG on 11th June 2018, this milestone opened a new chapter in the lives of our new students. They were welcomed into the school by Rev. Fr. Gregory Devarajan, Rector & Correspondent. Mrs. Annie Premkumar AHM said the prayers and instructions to the parents was given by Mrs. Roselyn Kennedy, KG Coordinator. Students along with their parents were taken to the classrooms. The day concluded with a prayer at 10.45 am.
Celebration of International Yoga Day
On 21st June International Yoga Day was observed in the school. The positive impacts of meditation and benefits of Yoga were elucidated during the assembly. The students performed yogic exercises and ‘pranayam’ in their own classrooms led by their class teachers. A group of Std. V students gave a demonstration of various Asanas. Students were motivated to be regular practitioners of Yoga.
A Special Assembly was conducted on 12th June 2018. Rev. Fr. Gregory Devarajan, Rector & Correspondent introduced Rev. Fr. Gerald Miranda- Principal and Rev. Fr. Angelo Joseph -Administrator, the new members of the management who took office this academic year. The brothers Br. Hendry and Br. Sasikumar were welcomed and introduced to the students. Rev. Fr. Philip Louie the former Vice Principal, Administrator and Primary Section incharge was thanked and felicitated during the assembly.
Holy Mass was celebrated on 8th June 2018 to commemorate the feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus. Rev. Fr. Thisai Jerry led the celebration, con celebrating were Rev. Fr. Gregory Devarajan and Rev. Fr. Gerald Miranda. Catholic Students reverently participated and were spiritually kindled by father Jerry’s soulful singing. His message to the students was ‘Say Yes to Good and No to Bad’.
Workshop on Teaching Methods and Skill Development
A Two Day workshop on teaching methods and skill development was conducted for the teachers on 1st and 2nd June 2018. Mrs. Tresa Xavier and her team conducted the workshop. The workshop emphasised on presentation skills, intrapersonal leadership, updates on teaching methodology concerning slow learners, multisensory approach in teaching, neuro linguistic programming (NLP) habit formation and time and stress management. The workshop was constructive in helping the teachers to become better educators.

DOBODA Season 6
In an effort to take dance beyond the boundaries of mere entertainment, the students of the DB Dance Club in collaboration with the renowned John Britto’s Dance Company organized Don Bosco Dancing (DOBODA) – an annual fund raiser by Don Bosco Egmore. The dance extravaganza was held this Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th January 2018 @ 6.30 pm at the DB Egmore auditorium. And DB Carnival from 9 am to 9 pm. Season 6 is aid of children in DBRITE, Cuddalore.
Don Bosco Egmore completed 60 glorious years and celebrated the culmination of the Diamond Jubilee on 19th and 20th of January 2018.
